The Parent's Checklist for Safe School Transportation

Before you trust any transportation service with your child, go through this checklist. These are the 10 things that separate a genuinely safe service from one that only looks safe.

1

Driver identity is verified

Never use a service that doesn't verify driver identity before allowing them to transport children. Ask for proof of ID verification and background check completion.

2

You can see the driver's details before pickup

You should know the driver's name, photo, and vehicle plate number before they arrive. If you can't see this information in advance, that's a red flag.

3

Real-time GPS tracking is available

Live tracking is non-negotiable for child transportation. You should be able to follow your child's route in real time from your phone.

4

Pickup and drop-off confirmations are sent

You should receive an automatic notification when your child is picked up and when they arrive. Manual check-ins are not reliable enough.

5

There is an emergency contact or panic button

A dedicated in-app emergency button or direct contact line to the service is essential. In any urgent situation, you need a guaranteed way to reach support instantly.

6

The vehicle is insured and inspected

The vehicle carrying your child should have valid insurance and pass regular safety inspections. Confirm this before the first ride.

7

Your child knows the driver by name

Teach your child to ask the driver for their name before getting in. If the name doesn't match what you were told in the app, they should not board.

8

The service has a clear cancellation policy

You should be able to cancel or reschedule without confusion. Unclear cancellation policies are a sign of poor service design overall.

9

Parent reviews or references are available

Look for reviews from other parents in your area who have used the service. Word of mouth within the school community is one of the strongest trust signals.

10

Your child feels comfortable

After the first few rides, ask your child how they feel about the driver and the journey. Their comfort and sense of safety matters as much as any technical verification.
